Astere Yemmer is a firm believer in empowering young women to be critical thinkers, using their voice to speak out if they see or experience injustice in their community!

Service has always been a huge part of Astere’s life, visiting the Greater Harlem Nursing Home with her mother on a monthly basis as a child, and later serving food to the homeless with her own children.

Astere passed through The Blue Nile Rights of Passage in Harlem and eventually served as a mentor for the Young Daughters who came after her. In 2017, Astere pioneered a Girls Empowerment Program at her school where she and her colleagues worked with sixty young women weekly, to provide them with cultural and community service opportunities in the Bronx community.

Astere serves as the Co-Chair of the Risk Management Committee, with The Bronx Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., ensuring background security for youth programming for the young people the Chapter serves.

Astere speaks on the state of Education in NYC at N.C.N.W.’s Health and Wellness Fair in Co-Op City!
